Seattle Drivers and Snow

If you read my post about how Seattle drivers react to the rain, just imagine how bad it can get when there is snow on the ground. We're in the grip of a pretty good snow storm for this region and the traffic is bad.

A large part of the problem is that the city just isn't prepared for snow. I was amazed when I moved here that we only get snow once or twice a year in Seattle proper and the east side. As a result the city doesn't do a heck of a lot for it and it essentially shuts down the city.

There is another storm brewing for this afternoon so traffic will be early and heavy. I think the drivers in break into roughly 3 categories for snow.
  1. Grew up in snowy regions and know what they're doing. Most leave early because they're scared of categories #2 and #3. A couple of brave ones though treat it like it's nothing and refuse to alter their day one bit.
  2. Just don't see snow as being much different than rain.
  3. Those afraid of snow or category #2. They leave early to avoid both.
