Neoprene Rocks!!!

I'm a recreational cyclist. I cycle to and from work on a regular basis and on weekends when I have time.

Seattle's pretty cold and drizzly in the winter and last year I had a lot of problems keeping my feet warm. No more. After much experimentation and asking I've found the solution.

Smart Wool + Neoprene

I've tried various combinations of smart wool, seal socks, inner booties and outer booties with almost no success. I tried neoprene today in 40 degree temps and my feet were warm!!!

Latest Natural Disaster to Impact Seattle Traffic ...

Is the Sun. No I'm not kidding. My bus ride to work today took an extra 30 minutes today because of the Sun. The time change this weekend changed the position of the sun during morning commute Unfortunately this seems to have placed the sun over the 520 bridge during my normal commute time: 7:00-7:30ish.

Seattlans upon seeing the sun decide the only way to proceed was at the speed of insane. Not batshiat insane fast but rather lets play stop and go accross the bridge because we're terrified of the sun.

Get some sunglasses!!!

Seattle Drivers and Rain

Like most places, traffic in Seattle gets worse when it's raining. It's more dangerous so people slow down, take corners slower which eventually causes even more backups. However Seattle still manages to set itself apart from the rest of the country in a few ways ...
  1. It doesn't rain here. It drizzles. No I'm not joking. No thunder, lightning, torrential downpours or anything resembling actual raindrops.
  2. Instead of mildly slowing down, Seattleans go into full panic mode and refuse to even hit 35 on the freeways.
  3. Lets not forget than 35 is typically the standard speed at which they like to merge onto the freeway. Guess how fast they try it in the rain ...
  4. We live in Seattle!!! It rains for almost 3 solid months here. How can you not get used to this???????
  5. Did I mention it doesn't actually rain here.

Traffic in Seattle is insane.

Grrrrr

Ordering at Amazon.com is quickly sinking to the level of ordering through Ebay. I tried to save $5 on a book by going through one of their merchants recently. By recently I mean 2 weeks ago.

Since I'm posting you can guess as to whether or not I recieved my merchandise. The only information I have about the seller is their user name (big help that is). Want to complain? Just try finding the complain section of Amazon.com. Took me about 15 minutes.

Mmmmm Startbucks!!!

To make a longer story shorter, I recieved an early birthday present of a $25 gift card for StarkBucks. We live in Seattle and I like coffee so it's great.

I also won a competition internally at work and the gift is ... $30 StarkBucks gift certificate.

Previously this would have taken me about 3 weeks to burn through. But now that I don't drive by StarBucks on the way home and nor do I walk by one, this might take awhile. Reminds me of the Futura episode where Fry used is $300 tax rebate to drink 100 cups of coffee.

Been Awhile

Mom informed me that's in been months since I updated this blog. As guessed I've been fairly busy at work and spending most of my time playing around with geeky compiler features.

So here goes ...

Softball season is almost over. My coed team has a tournament on Sunday and that's it till Spring. We've the defending champs so we have a lot to play for this Sunday.

Football is getting off to a slow start. The refs have been quite flag happy the first few weeks and it's prevented every team from getting any kind of consistent offense together. The last two weeks they've been much better so we'll see how it goes.

As said before, work is keeping me plenty busy. I'm finishing my first Visual Basic Compiler feature and I'm eager to see how customers view it. Saying that, off to finish the day :)
